Michigan voters are embarking on a statewide ballot initiative in 2013 to ban fracking and frack wastes.

Committee to Ban Fracking in Michigan, a ballot question committee formed last year, begins collecting signatures April 12, 2013. The committee’s new website is Register through the website to gather signatures.

Contributions requested

Since the Committee is an all-volunteer, grassroots group with no corporate sponsorship, it seeks donations large and small from ordinary people. You don’t need to be a Michigan resident to contribute. Go here to donate to the campaign.

Ban Michigan Fracking’s Ellis Boal and LuAnne Kozma wrote an op-ed published on MLive this past week announcing and describing  the campaign:

Point-Counterpoint: Michigan voters need to ban fracking to protect human health, environment

You can read state representative Aric Nesbitt’s counterpoint here.

Basically, he says fracking is safe.
